Most young couples venture into the world of
Daycare,
Dance, and
Gymnastics with little more than intuition, hopes,
dreams and some hand-me-down information to guide them through the selection of
a proper school.
-
Although daycare is licensed by the Pennsylvania
Department of Welfare and kindergarten is licensed by the Pennsylvania Department of
Education, dance and gymnastic schools do not have to be licensed in the state
of Pennsylvania. Consequently, for children, there are no state approved
curriculum guidelines or safety regulations. Anyone may put up a sign and begin teaching children how to dance or
do gymnastics.
-
Because dance and gymnastic schools do not
have to comply with state standards, many children do not receive a proper or safe
education.
Recognizing the dilemma that most parents experience in trying
to find the best information and services we suggest the
following when searching for dance and gymnastic classes or childcare:
-
Do not believe everything you see and read in advertising.
-
Do not simply register with a phone call.
-
Visit the school and inspect the facility.
-
Observe the most advanced dance
and/or gymnastics class the
school offers.
-
Observe the childcare class in which you intend to register your child.
Attend on a day of inclement weather and observe the facility to ensure
that there is ample room for play as well as learning.
-
Ask about the credentials of the teachers and staff.
-
Ask for parent referrals.
-
Do all the above with at least 3 schools in your area.
-
Compare all of these issues
and then make a decision for the long term.
