WE ARE CHILDCARE, TOO !

 Only the babies are cared for in the charming, home-like atmosphere of the Infant House. Experienced caregivers, some of whom have been with Carol Leone for 10 years, give parents a sense of security that their babies are loved and given good care while they are away. The rest of the children are housed in the main building where there are nine spacious classrooms, several multipurpose areas, a computer area, a cafeteria, and two outside play areas. These children have the use of two trampolines, gross motor equipment and a large padded gym floor on a daily basis. 

Licensed by the Pennsylvania Department of Welfare, the center includes a kindergarten which is licensed by the Pennsylvania Department of Education. Carol Leone Childcare has earned a 2 star rating in the Keystone Stars, a voluntary state accreditation program to improve the quality of childcare in Pennsylvania.

Carol Leone Childcare offers a varied and flexible program for children aged six weeks through kindergarten from 6AM to 6PM, Monday through Friday, with full or part time contracts available. Children in childcare may also take Dance and/or Gymnastics classes during the day. A twelve week summer camp program is offered for elementary aged children.

The philosophy behind our curriculum is based in the belief that young children learn best by doing. In their early years, children explore the world around them by using all their senses (seeing, touching, smelling, hearing and tasting). We believe that children learn through play, investigation of the environment and interaction with peers and adults. Preschool children are encouraged to investigate various learning centers in the room which include dramatic play, library, sand and/or water, easel painting, creative arts, writing, blocks, math, science, music and manipulative.

Our guide for this environmental approach is the CREATIVE CURRICULUM, by Diane Trister Dodge. Children are stimulated to think things through,  to solve problems for themselves, whether their piecing together a puzzle or conceptualizing an idea at story time.  The teacher guides and offers support to help the child help himself. The preschool child participates in physical activities, learning centers, group and individual play, circle time and structured activities during the day. Breakfast, lunch and two snacks are provided.

MATH THEIR WAY, a math curriculum, (Addison-Wesley) and TELL A STORY, SING A SONG, a language arts curriculum, (McMillan-McGraw Hill) form the nucleus of the kindergarten curriculum. Although the formal kindergarten program is from 9AM - 11:30 AM, additional learning activities go on all day.
